More Athletes Should Replicate USC's Kait Devir
Here's the thing about vlogging.
Why more lacrosse athletes haven't figured out to do this...is really wild.
Even now with the NIL, we barely have a handful.
We can think of Paul Rabil, who started before NIL, Mitchell Pehlke (Ohio State), Stelios Kroudis (Villanova), and we recently discovered Devir. Much more on her in a moment.
Rabil made himself famous through his vlog.
You could go so far as to say the PLL doesn't exist without Rabil's fame which was generated from social media.
He started 13 years ago with a simple video of him taping his butt end.
It has over 160,000 views, which are insane numbers for a video of dude sitting in his basement talking to the camera in 2009. By comparison, another taping your shaft video that he posted in 2014 has over 416,000 views.
Why haven't more lacrosse players followed in Rabil's footsteps?
Rabil created the road map for folks who are trying to make lacrosse a full time job. You have to create content. You have to show up everyday. It's frustrating when the numbers don't mirror the work load and there are going to be haters. Maybe that is why so few lacrosse players bother.
While we've never asked, we'll guess that Kroudis was definitely inspired by Rabil. He started vlogging with Jesse James West when they were in middle school in New Jersey under the moniker Spartan Strings.
West got so good at YouTube, he quit lacrosse, moved to California, and is a YouTube star.
A star.
His channel has 1.17 million followers.
Rabil's channel only has 243,000 subscribers.
Now, we have discovered another LA based vlogger only Kait Devir is still playing lacrosse.
The USC junior recently transferred from Boston College and has continued documenting her journey as a student athlete.
Who knows where this vlog will lead Devir.
At worst, it will be an incredible keepsake of her time as a student athlete.
At worst, she'll continue to grow the USC brand and her personal brand.
We'll be watching. Professional lacrosse players should be taking notes and getting behind the camera or the podcast mic.
