Norbert Bielan of LacrosseRecruits.com uploaded a highlight video from Princeton's run to the championship in 2001. People are quick to name Damien Davis (3 sport High School All-American), Trevor Tierney (heels on the line without an arc), Ryan Boyle (53 points as a Freshman), and Ryan Mollot (converted shortstick from the legendary Boys' Latin '97 class) as the guys who orchestrated the title run, but they would be remiss not to mention a few others.
Sean Hartofilis (37 points as a Sophomore) was the most flamboyant person on that team. His flare for the extreme off the field rivaled his swag on it. He, arguably, increased the sales of the Warrior Evolution head single-handily because of his 2001 performance. Everyone and their grandma started stringing their wands with two nylons and a "V." Coaches embraced the underhand shooting technique and goalies learned what it meant when the ball took the elevator.
BJ Prager (40 points as a Junior) made the Brine Edge with traditional stringing a staple. No one has played the crease position better than BJ. Garden City's finest made the crease attack spot important again.
Winship Ross put D-Middies on the map after his steller play all year while playing with the original STX Viper head. He graced the cover of three different versions of Face Off Magazine that year.
It is important to note that a myriad of Princeton players used traditional pockets this season: Matt Striebel, BJ Prager, Owen Daly, Rob Torti, Ryan Boyle, John Robinson, Brad Dumont, Chip Buzzeo and Dan Clark to name a few. Did the pocket have a direct correlation to the successful season of '01? Probably not, but we at LPG like to think so.
