Philadelphia, Pa - The Philadelphia Wings opened the 2012 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season with a 22-12 loss to the Rochester Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.
A fourth quarter brawl in which seven different scuffles in the final 25.9 seconds provided an exciting finish to an otherwise disappointing start to the season. Even back-up goal tender Kurtis Wager dropped his gloves when he went after Rochester goal tender Jake Henhawk and exchanged blows.
Leading the way for the Wings was rookie forward Kevin Crowley, who had a hat trick in his first NLL game and added five assists. Other Wings notables included Drew Westervelt with three goals and Dan Dawson, who dished out six assists in his Wings debut.
The Knighthawks were led by Jordan Hall with three goals and seven assists and Mike Accursi who scored three goals and tallied six assists.
