Chazz Woodson's Diving Goal Against Charlotte Hounds

Ohio Machine attackman Chazz Woodson scored with 9:54 left in the fourth quarter to tie the game up at 14, but the Hounds scored four unanswered goals to give the Hounds the 18-15 win in the two teams’ first ever meeting.

Machine attackman Connor Martin scored his first goal of the season and the first goal of the day for the Machine. Midfielder Brett Garber and midfielder Matt Lalli added two straight goals to give the Machine the early 3-0 advantage. The Hounds answered with three straight goals but a late goal from Woodson gave the Machine a 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Charlotte’s defense shut down the Machine in the second quarter, out-scoring the Machine 5-1, to take a 9-7 lead heading into half-time.

The Machine responded quickly coming out of the half, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter. Charlotte quickly regained the lead with two straight 2-pt goals from midfielders Stephen Berger and Josh Amidon.

Martin answered by scoring two straight goals followed by two diving goals from midfielder Matt Messina and defenseman Ray Megill.

Ohio was unable to continue their defensive success in the fourth quarter as Charlotte ended the game on a 4-1 run to earn their first victory in franchise history.

Woodson (4G) and Martin (3G, 1A) each had four points while Garber (1G, 1A) and defenseman Kyle Hartzell (2ptG) each have two points for the Machine. Goalie Stefan Schroder had five saves in the first half and goalie Brian Phipps had four in the second half in his Ohio Machine debut.

Machine midfielder Anthony Kelly rebounded from last week’s 9-30 performance at the face-off X, by winning 19 out of 31 face-offs.

Charlotte Hounds were led by midfielders Josh Amidon and Stephen Berger who had six points apiece.

Next week the Machine will head home to Columbus to play their inaugural home opener at historic Selby Stadium in Delaware, OH.
