We all know Asics for their excellent running footwear and their first venture into lacrosse footwear does not disappoint. The V Cut is a synthetic leather and mesh upper shoe that fits well consistently through the life of the shoe. Also in use is their P-Guard system which allows for protection of the shoe when dragging the trailing foot / toe when shooting or passing. The cool feature with the P Guard aside from reduced shoe wear is that it is notched out on the inside of the foot at the end of the lace channel to allow for proper flexibility. Asics uses their Solyte midsole cushioning which is more durable than standard EVA cushioning found in most midsoles. Solyte is used by Asics in their running shoe line at the $100 dollar and up price range.
The small nubbed outsole is going to be best suited for carpet turf situations. While the more aggressive turf cleat bottom will be suited to a wider range of surface play. You will notice on the more aggressive outsole model that the tread/outsole is shaped in more of a tooth pattern rather than a cone shaped stud. The curved pattern and design of the Asics turf cleat outsole is meant to reduce hot spots that a true plastic cleat can cause. The other plus is that Asics turf cleat bottoms are rubber. So even if you end up on a hard natural surface when playing you will still get the cushioning from the rubber bottom without sacrificing traction. Plastic cleats/ studs do not penetrate hard surfaces which can cause pain in the ankles and shins. Hence the V Cut might save you some athletic tape and trips to the trainer.
A few final features that make the Asics V Cut a winner are. Stitched toe cap which will reduce delamination in the toe area, Gel inserts in the heel area for cushioning and the Asics HG10mm raised gradient heel system. This means that the shoe is built from heel to toe on a 10mm gradient to allow better alignment of the ankles, shin area and knees to reduce stress on the lower limbs and to help the athlete be more biomechanically efficient. I have found break in to game ready time for this shoe personally to be about 2 hours of wear.
