TOWSON, Md. – Alex Corboy scored the tying and winning goals late in the game Friday as Gonzaga (DC) defeated Calvert Hall (MD), 10-8, in the second annual Lacrosse Playground Spring Classic at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The Purple Eagles (5-2), ranked No. 14 by TopLaxRecruits.com, seized a 5-1 lead and then saw the defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champs roar back to take an 8-7 advantage.

Gonzaga’s decisive 5-1 spurt in the fourth quarter came after Calvert Hall (0-2) squandered a full-serve extra-man opportunity during which it took just one shot.

Sophomore attackman Timmy Kelly led the Cardinals (0-2, ranked No. 10) with three goals and two assists, including the team’s lone first-half goal. But the Cards reeled off six straight goals to take a 7-5 lead with Jordan Germershausen (three goals, two assists) leading the attack.

Senior midfielder Stephen Kelly gave Calvert Hall a 6-5 lead Germershausen made it 7-5, but Gonzaga’s Max Planning and then Timmy Monahan’s scored to tie it with 7:40 remaining.

Just 18 seconds later, Andrew Fanshaw gave Calvert Hall an 8-7 lead before senior Corboy tied it and put the Purple Eagles ahead to stay with 3:48 left. sealed the Cardinals’ fate.
