Empire State Cup Day 1 Recap



Central 13, Adirondack 1

Ryan Cook led all scorers with 3 goals and 1 assist as Central rolled past Adirondack 13-1. Central jumped out to an early lead, taking a 5-0 advantage at the half. Matthew Bennett and Andrew Potter each added 2 goals and 1 assist for the Central squad, while Bailey Wilkinson and Nicholas Koelmel each had a goal and an assist. Spencer Sikes assisted Kendall Vecchio for the lone goal for Adirondack. Central went 9-16 at the face off X. Both of Adirondack’s keepers played well combining for 11 saves.

Western 9, Hudson Valley 2

Western attackmen Davis Prince and Jonathan Perotto played well with one another combining for 8 points as Western outlasts Hudson Valley 9-2. Prince tallied 2 goals and 3 assists, while Perotto scored twice and assisted on another. Western held a steady lead throughout the game leading Hudson 4-1 at halftime and then 6-1 after the third quarter. Western goalies, Guiton, Martina, and Ferrino combined for 13 saves. Hudson’s Kevin McDermott had a goal and an assist. Hudson face off man, Michael Orefice, went 8-14 at the X.


New York City 10, Long Island 4

Although Long Island’s, James Gerstner, dominated the face off X going 8-12, New York Cities offense proved to be too much for Long Island to handle. After leading 2-0 after the first quarter, NYC shot out to a 6-1 lead at halftime. NYC’s offense was powered mainly Joseph Licciardi who generated 2 goals and 4 assists. Andrew Custance contributed 2 goals and an assist, while Kevin Goshorn also scored twice. Long Island midfielder Brian Gaffney led his team with a goal and an assist.

Central 14, Hudson Valley 7

Central tops Hudson Valley 14-7 as Ryan Cook produces 4 goals and 2 assists. The first half of the game was close with a 4-3 Central lead after the first quarter and a 7-5 Central lead at the half. Central blew the game open in the second half scoring 7 goals to Hudson’s 2. Face offs had something to do with it as Central’s face off men Purvis, Marchal, and Mann combined to win 11 of 16 face offs. Hudson Valley midfielder John Korzellus had 4 goals. Also contributing for Central was Andrew Potter (3g, 1a), Long stick midfielder Nicholas Nye (2g), Eric Soderquist (1g,1a), and Matthew Bennett (1g,1a). Hudson combined for 8 saves. Michael Farber stopped 5, while Will Ramos blocked 3.



New York City 11, Adirondack 2

Mike Mandano scores a hat trick as New York City tops Adirondack 11-2. NYC held a comfortable lead throughout the game winning 4-0 at halftime and then 8-0 after the third quarter. Jake Schneider and Patrick O’Rourke supplied 2 goals each for NYC while Jack Grossman and Noah Fosse both added 2 assists. Adirondack’s goals were scored by Kendall Vecchio and Trenton Armitage. Riley Smith and Christopher Bucciarelli each made 7 saves for Adirondack.

Long Island 11, Western 5

After only leading 5-3 at halftime, Long Island broke out for 5 goals in the third quarter and held on to beat Western 11-5. Long Island’s offense was lead by Matthew Raffa who scored 3 times and assisted on another. Conor Muldoon also recorded a hat trick, while Michael Ferraro generated 2 goals for Long Island. Long Island’s Michael Calvagna dominated at the X winning 13 of 16 face offs. In goal, Daniel Costa made 6 saves for Long Island. Five different players recorded goals for Western.
