Ware Academy will host the 6th Annual Ware Academy Lacrosse Invitational (WALI) Saturday, April 27 on its 19-acre campus, one mile from Gloucester’s historic Courthouse District.
The event is free and open to the public, with the community encouraged to attend.
“The purpose of the Ware Academy Lacrosse Invitational is to bring together regional teams for a day of lacrosse and sportsmanship in the spirit of promoting the fastest game on two feet,” said Ware Academy’s Head of School, Thomas L. Thomas, III.
It also presents an opportunity for the girls’ teams to support breast cancer research. The girls’ arm of the invitational is officially a “Cradle for a Cure” event with players wearing pink to raise awareness and selling shirts to raise funds.
Five independent schools from across the state – Ware Academy, Steward School, Norfolk Collegiate, Walsingham Academy, and Highland School – will participate in the games, which kick off with the first boys game at 9 a.m. and the first girls game at 9:30 a.m.
LAX World, a supplier of lacrosse equipment, apparel and gear, will be on site, along with Chic-Fil-A, Starbucks and Norm’s Famous Barbeque. Tournament t-shirts and concessions will be available throughout the day.
“This has been a great day for everyone involved over the past five years,” Thomas said, “and we are looking forward to another great event this year for our students, families and the community.”
