INDIANAPOLIS – The Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee selected Villanova as the host school for the 2013 Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Villanova will be serving as host for the first time in the history of the event, which will be held May 24 and 26 at Villanova Stadium.

“We are thrilled that the 2013 championship will be making a return to Pennsylvania and are excited to be working with Villanova as host,” said Ann-Marie Guglieri, chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee and senior associate athletic director for internal operations/senior woman administrator at Colgate. “Historic Villanova Stadium will be a great setting that will provide for a rewarding student-athlete and fan experience which is great for the continual growth of the game of women’s lacrosse and our championship.”

The Division I women’s lacrosse championship was last held in Pennsylvania in 2007, as Northwestern defeated Virginia 15-13 in Philadelphia.

“Villanova University is honored to be named host institution for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship,” Villanova director of athletics Vince Nicastro said. “This championship will feature the best competition in the country and is sure to become a signature event in women’s collegiate lacrosse as it will be played in one of the most avid lacrosse markets in the nation. We are extremely excited to be a part of it.”
