US Lacrosse Now Accepting 2014 AED Grant Applications, Special Discounts

BALTIMORE, Jan. 24, 2014 — US Lacrosse is now accepting applications for 2014 grants to be used to significantly subsidize the cost of acquiring automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Teams, leagues and US Lacrosse chapters may submit applications through April 1, 2014. Grant recipients will receive one (1) Powerheart AED G3 Plus Automatic unit for the discounted price of $700.

Teams and organizations that are not awarded 2014 grants still have the opportunity to purchase the Powerheart AED G3 Plus unit and/or training sessions at discounted prices through Cardiac Science, a global leader in the manufacturing of AEDs and a strategic partner with US Lacrosse. The units are available to all US Lacrosse members for $1,250, which comes with a 7-year product warranty.

For the same $1,250 price, US Lacrosse members can also choose the AED Program Management option, which includes AED/CPR training for up to 10 people, medical direction, and meticulous record tracking through Cardiac Science, in addition to the AED Powerheart G3 Plus unit.

Please visit www.uslacrosse.org/AEDgrant to access the online grant application form or to read more about the US Lacrosse AED grant program. US Lacrosse has awarded 45 grants totaling over $53,000 to member teams and leagues for AED units and training over the past four years.

"Providing the safest possible environment for youth lacrosse players and all participants is one of our organization’s highest priorities, and therefore, we believe that having AED units available at every game should be a priority for all teams and leagues,” said Joshua Christian, managing director of sport development at US Lacrosse. “We hope that these grants, as well as the discounts offered by our partner Cardiac Science, can help our members overcome the financial barrier to having this potentially life-saving machine on the sidelines.”

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the U.S., taking more than 400,000 lives each year. Survival is directly linked to the time interval between the SCA and the first AED shock delivered to the victim. Statistics validate that when shock is delivered within one minute, survival rates can increase eighteen fold.
