University of the District of Columbia Men’s Lacrosse Era Begins Saturday at Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA – The first ever University of the District of Columbia lacrosse game will be played at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, February 22nd at Long Bridge Park as Scott Urick's Firebird men's lacrosse team visits local Division III foe Marymount University.

"We're very excited for the first game in the history of men's lacrosse at UDC. Marymount is a well-coached team, and I think it's good to start with a local opponent. We're looking forward to going out there and competing," Urick said.

Urick, who said he was pleased with his team's performance in back-to-back scrimmages vs. Catholic and Catonsville Community College, realizes it is a long season, but is nevertheless excited for his team to play its first game.

"We realize is a marathon, not a sprint. But we're happy to get started, and we're looking to play as hard as we can for 60 minutes."

The Firebirds feature four players from lacrosse hotbed British Columbia, including a very talented playmaker, Attach Chase Fraser (Elementary Education – Aldergrove, British Columbia/Blue Ridge School) and a physical midfielder, sophomore Luke Gillespie (Business Management – Maple Ridge, British Columbia/Pfeiffer University). Tom Yancheski (Sociology – Phoenix, MD/Harford), the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, will likely make the start in goal for the Firebirds.
