McNeill lined up against Wake Forest in September of last year
University of North Carolina lacrosse player, Mark McNeill, will be playing a considerable amount tonight at wide receiver in UNC's football season opener against sixth ranked South Carolina. McNeill, 6'4'' 215 Junior from St. Mary's Annapolis, is a big target who will provide depth at wide receiver this season. The Annapolis Capital/Gazette Athlete of the Year and All-County choice in 2009, appeared in eight games (starting two of them) and caught 10 passes for 71 yards last Fall. He is currently listed in the second wide receiver group on the team's depth chart, but that could easily change depending on what formation the Offensive Coordinator wants to call and player match-ups.
McNeill was utilized as a transition middie throughout the season. Starting on the faceoff wing, McNeill was often caught on both sides of the ball. As Quint Kessenich would say, his "athletic ability" helped propel his team to win the ACC Championship and advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. McNeill would end up scoring two crucial goals in the Quarterfinal loss to Denver. He finished the lacrosse season with a .33 clutch rating on Lax.com.
North Carolina and South Carolina open the 2013 college football season on Thursday, Aug. 29, in Columbia at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN. This is the first meeting between the neighboring state schools since 2007 and it is UNC's first trip to Columbia since 1990.
