CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – This May, Jalbert Productions and Little Brother of War Entertainment is bringing fans an all-access look into the Virginia men’s lacrosse program in two different 30-minute episodes. “There And Back,” built in the documentary mold of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” debuts on Tuesday, May 8 on ESPNU at 6:30 p.m. The second and final 30-minute episode will be televised May 9 on ESPNU in the same 6:30 p.m. time slot.
Jay Jalbert, the show’s producer and director, is a former two-time first-team USILA All-American at Virginia and a member of Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Dom Starsia’s first NCAA title team at UVa in 1999. His family-run production company created and produced the show, in conjunction with Little Brother of War Entertainment, an entity dedicated to revealing the sport of lacrosse at its core through its various productions.
“It was really fun to catch up and work with Jay on this project,” said Starsia. “He left a strong imprint on this program during his years in Charlottesville and it was an education for the players to connect the man and the myth. We tried to be sincerely open and accommodating with Jay and his staff and I believe that viewers will discover a unique, detailed perspective on the operation of a college lacrosse program. In addition, you may come to know my family a bit and how we balance those two areas in our lives.”
“This has been a really exciting project for me,” said Jalbert. “My time spent at the University of Virginia and playing for Coach Starsia was truly special. It was extra gratifying to come back and spend time with Coach and with the current guys on the team. We are extremely excited about the production and feel it will not only be something the UVa lacrosse family will appreciate, but something everyone enthusiastic about the sport of lacrosse will embrace.”
Cameras followed the Virginia men’s lacrosse program periodically throughout this season and the show will provide an in-depth look into what life is like as a student-athlete at the University of Virginia and within the men’s lacrosse program. Highlighted by in-depth interviews with Starsia and a personal look into his life, filming included exclusive interviews with coaches, student-athletes and staff members, who shared their perspective and role within the UVa men’s lacrosse program.
After the two-day run, the episodes will air periodically throughout the month of May on ESPNU as the 2012 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament takes place.
