Triad Blackhawks Host Lacrosse Tournament to Collect Toys, Benefit Local Charities

The Triad Blackhawks will host their second annual Holiday Toy Classic lacrosse tournament on Saturday, December 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cash Elementary School, 4700 Old Hollow Road, Kernersville. The tournament is a Marine Corps Toys for Tots event, with the net proceeds of the tournament going to local charities.

Last year the Holiday Toy Classic collected over 500 toys for needy children in the Triad.

Ten high school teams -- including players from Forsyth, Guilford, and Alamance County -- along with four adult teams will participate in the event. Each player will bring a toy to donate a holiday toy for needy families through the Toys for Tots program.

In addition to team competition, the tournament will feature a lacrosse skills competition. Volunteers will also be on hand to give away lacrosse sticks to young children through the "A Stick From Chase" program, initiated last year by local lacrosse clubs to honor the late Chase Bunting, a high school lacrosse player who died in a skateboarding accident in October 2010.

Local lacrosse vendors, who are co-‐sponsoring the event, will have lacrosse gear and apparel available for purchase. Team officials from the Charlotte Hounds, the newest team in Major League Lacrosse, will also be in attendance. A new feature this year is a fundraising raffle of lacrosse gear.

"We are excited to host this worthwile event in the heart of the Triad," said tournament chairman Kevin Bugg, a Blackhawks coach and outgoing Kernersville Mayor Pro Tem. "We all love lacrosse, but also recognize the need for all of us to step forward in a cooperative and generous way to help those who are less fortunate. The Holiday Toy Classic allows us to do that."

Net proceeds of the event will go to benefit the Kernersville Elementary School Christmas Relief Fund, the Backpack Kids outreach of Sojourn Community Church of Greensboro, and A Stick From Chase program.

Admission to the event is free for spectators, and members of the public are urged to drop by, donate a toy, and enjoy a day of exciting lacrosse action. More information can be found at www.triadblackhawks.com.
