Trevor Tierney Rejoins Denver Men’s Lacrosse Staff

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse program has added Trevor Tierney to its 2015 staff as the volunteer assistant coach, head coach Bill Tierney announced on Monday.

Trevor Tierney is the son of the Hall of Fame head coach, serving under his father at DU for four seasons from 2010-13, including the first two as his first assistant coach. A two-time All-American in his playing days, Trevor Tierney will primarily work with the goalies, a position that he earned the nation’s top honor in in 2001.

“We are very excited to have Trevor return as our Volunteer Coach,” Bill Tierney said. “He has been instrumental in the growth of our program over the last five years, and having him back on the field and in the locker room with our team is inspiring for us all. Trevor spent last year working toward his Master’s Degree in Psychology from Harvard, while continuing to run our Denver Elite Club Program, our teaching camps and our LXTC Lacrosse programs. While remaining extremely busy, his heart was always with the Pioneers. He will work with our goalies, coordinate game and practice preparation and enhance our overall mental and physical development. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Trevor back by my side.”

In 2002, Trevor Tierney was an All-World goalie for Team USA at the World Lacrosse Championships in Perth, Australia, a tournament that saw the U.S. win the gold medal. Tierney was a first round selection by the New Jersey Pride (second overall) in the Inaugural MLL Collegiate Draft in 2001. In his four years playing under his father at Princeton, the Tigers won two national titles.

Tierney replaces 2014 volunteer assistant Frank Abruzzini, who spent last season with the Pioneers.

He will continue to be a great college lacrosse coach for years to come and we wish him the very best.”
