Titan Canadians Making Their Mark In Division I

DETROIT -- Both the Detroit men's and women's lacrosse teams have taken advantage of being so close to the Canadian border and now many of those student-athletes are making a huge contribution to the success and overall history of Titan lacrosse.

Recently, LacrosseInsideTheGame.com released a list of Canadian Division I “Impact” Leaders and both the men and women each had three representatives in the top 11.

On the men's side, junior Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) was ranked as the top Canadian Division I impact player. The LSM was second in the nation in caused turnovers a year ago with 3.25 per game and is once again among the nation's leaders currently topping the MAAC and ranking second in the country with 2.67 per game.

The list also has sophomore Joel Matthews (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) ranked fifth and sophomore Shayne Adams (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) 11th. Matthews leads the MAAC in total points (38) and goals (23) and is 11th in Division I with 4.22 points per game and 19th tallying 2.56 goals per contest. Adams is third in the MAAC with 19 goals and ranks 47th in the nation posting 2.11 per game.

On the women's side, senior Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) is listed third, while senior Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) is ninth and freshman goalie Lexie McCormick (Peterborough, ON/St. Peters) is 11th.

Boissonneault recently crossed the 200-goal plateau for her career and is second among active players with 211 career goals, including 23 on the year - second in the NLC and 47th in the country. She also currently ranks 32nd with 2.88 goals per game and is in the top 15 all-time in Division I with 127 caused turnovers.

Ranked No. 9, Mahorn is on the cusp of breaking into triple digits in her career in goals and she heads into this weekend with 95. She is third on the squad with nine goals on the year and is tied for third with 12 points. She leads the team with 22 draw controls and is 78th in the nation in that category at 2.75 per game.

The rookie netminder McCormick is 11th on the rankings by L.I.T.G. She has 67 saves on the season and is 28th in Division I with 8.0 saves per game.
