Three Orange Garner Preseason All-America Nods

BALTIMORE – Three members of the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team were selected as preseason All-Americans on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Junior defenseman Brian Megill headlined the Orange’s selections, earning second-team honors. Redshirt senior attackman Tim Desko was named to the third team. Junior attackman/midfielder JoJo Marasco received honorable mention distinction.

Megill has started all 32 games of his Orange career. A 2011 All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, Megill recorded 34 ground balls and led all SU close defensemen with 27 caused turnovers a year ago. For his career, Megill has 73 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers.

Desko racked up 16 goals and 19 total points in 10 games last season. He set a career high for goals scored with five in last year’s 12-10 win against Virginia. Despite missing a significant portion of the season due to injury, Desko’s 16 goals still tied for the third on the team. He enters his final season with 41 career goals.

A USILA Honorable Mention All-American last year, Marasco tied for the team lead in points (41) and assists (18) in 2011. He has 32 goals and 26 assists in his first two seasons for the Orange and has scooped up 34 career ground balls.

In addition to being recognized as preseason All-Americans, Megill, Desko and Marasco were all named 2012 team captains in October.

The Orange opens its 2012 season at home on Sunday, Feb. 19 against Albany.
