Three New Additions Round Out Plattsburgh State Lacrosse Staff

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State lacrosse team has added Rory Pedrick, Joe May and Jared Burns as assistant coaches for the 2012 season.

Pedrick becomes Plattsburgh’s top assistant after an impressive career with Division I University of Massachusetts under Coach Greg Cannella. While at UMass, Pedrick played in the NCAA tournament three times including a second-place finish after losing in the NCAA Final to Virginia in 2006. During the Minutemens run to the final, Pedrick netted goals in the quarter-final, semi-final and final.

“We are incredibly excited to get a former Division I player from a great program to join our staff,” added Plattsburgh State head lacrosse coach Ryan Cavanagh. “He comes to Plattsburgh with a similar philosophy and will help the Cardinals to continue to be an up-tempo, offensive minded team.”

Pedrick was second on the team in scoring in 2006 and was in the top five for three out of his four years. In all Pedrick netted 36 goals and 35 assists in 53 career games for the Minutemen. He was also named to the NEILA Scholar-Athlete team.

After attending UMass, Pedrick began coaching for True Lacrosse in Chicago, Ill. where he was a camp director and all-star coach. Pedrick has also coached at several lacrosse camps including Peak 200 and the Sean Morris Lacrosse Academy.

Along with coaching the Cardinals, Pedrick is also a coach and director for Rogue Lacrosse in Saratoga, N.Y.

“From a recruiting standpoint, Coach Pedrick will allow us to tap into the Albany area for potential student-athletes,” said Cavanagh. “We believe his addition to the program will without a doubt help to continue moving Cardinal lacrosse in the right direction.”

Pedrick graduated from UMass with a B.A. in communications.

May and Burns will serve as volunteer assistant coaches with the Cardinals for the 2012 season.

May recently completed his career at SUNY Geneseo, where he was twice named as an All-American. He competed at the USILA/LAXWORLD 2011 Division III Senior North/South All-Star game, earned All-SUNYAC first team honors and SUNYAC Championship All-Tournament team honors twice.

In 2010 May was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team and graduated from Geneseo in 2011 with a degree in psychology. He is currently working towards his master’s degree in school counseling at Plattsburgh.

Burns returns to Plattsburgh after completing his Cardinal career in 2008. Burns is one of only two Cardinal lacrosse players to have earned Academic All-SUNYAC honors for three straight years. Burns was also named to the Commissioner’s List in both his junior and senior years. He graduated from Plattsburgh with a degree in finance and an accounting minor.

Returning for his fifth season with the Cardinal lacrosse staff is assistant coach Larry Allen. He primarily works with defensemen and midfielders. Along with his assistant coaching duties, Allen is also the Assistant Dean of Students at Plattsburgh.

From 2001-2003, he served as the assistant coach and defense coordinator at SUNY Canton under Jim Nee. Allen was promoted to head coach of the Kangaroos in 2003, leading the then-junior college program for the next two years.

Allen received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 2000 from LeMoyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), where he played for four years at defensive midfielder for the NCAA Division II Dolphins. Allan also received a Master’s degree in counseling and human development from St. Lawrence University (Canton, N.Y.) in 2003.
