Boston, MA (May 13, 2014) – TheLocker is proud to announce the addition of former U.S. Women’s Senior National Lacrosse Team Captain and current Boston College Head Women’s Coach Acacia Walker to its team of brand ambassadors as the sport’s first social media community grows its team of top female athletes and connects male and female players alike around the world.
One of the top female lacrosse players in U.S. history, Walker competed on the U.S. Women’s Senior National Team from 2002-2012 and was a member of the Gold Medal winning team at the 2009 World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic. Walker played her collegiate lacrosse at the University of Maryland where she was a two-time Tewaaraton candidate and as a coach, helped lead the Northwestern University Women’s Lacrosse Team to three consecutive National Championships from 2006-2008.
‘TheLocker has truly blazed the trail as a fun and creative place for female lacrosse players worldwide to call home,” said Acacia Walker.
According to US Lacrosse’s recently released 2013 participation survey report, the number of female players at the youth level alone has increased 43% over the past five years and female lacrosse continues to be the fastest growing sport in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). TheLocker aims to provide female players worldwide with the opportunity to engage with, and look up to, the very best female players in the sport and continually grow the sport of lacrosse for all players.
“The popularity of lacrosse has exploded in recent years and the influx of female players, especially at the youth level is a major reason why,” said TheLocker Founder Sean Morris. “The Locker accepts players as one community, regardless of age, ability or gender, and providing female players with an ambassador like Acacia to interact and engage with is a great step in harnessing the sport’s excitement within that group.”
Walker is the first of many top female players to come in joining TheLocker’s current team of brand ambassadors including 2013 Major League Lacrosse Player of the Year Rob Pannell and current face of Nike Lacrosse, Max Seibald.
