The University of Georgia hired Greg McGarity as Director of Athletics a year ago, and for some reason there's lacrosse buzz down south right now. As the former Executive Associate Athletic Director at the University of Florida, McGarity made the push for Women's Lacrosse. We would love to see another SEC school get Division 1 lacrosse.

Greg McGarity was a senior athletic administrator at Florida five years ago when the school decided to start a women's lacrosse program. A similar move could be made at Georgia under McGarity in the years to come.
"Sometime over the next three or four years, we will more than likely add another women's sport," the Bulldogs athletic director told a crowd at an Atlanta speaking engagement earlier this summer. "That's something we're going to have to add."
Georgia hasn't added a new sports team in a decade -- since women's equestrian became the 21st Bulldogs program in 2001. That sport is not yet sponsored by the NCAA, but the program has won national titles.
McGarity told the group that women's lacrosse is a personal favorite, but later said in an interview that an internal committee would be formed in the future to review possible sports to consider.
"That's definitely a sport that would have to be in the mix," McGarity said. "It's an NCAA counter. You already have two schools in this conference, Vandy and Florida, that both have lacrosse. There's an NCAA championship, so there are points directed towards the director's cup and it's a fan-interactive game."
