Tampa Men's Lacrosse to Host Three Games Next Week

TAMPA, Fla. - After a one week hiatus the University of Tampa men's lacrosse team will host three games, including two Deep South Conference match up, next week at Pepin Stadium. Sunday afternoon the Spartans will host Coker at 1 p.m. Tuesday night the Spartans will host Wingate in a conference match up. Tampa will conclude its week Saturday afternoon when they face the defending DSC Champions Catawba at 1 p.m.

Tampa comes into this game 2-2, after splitting their two games last week. The Spartans defeated Florida Tech 11-7, but fell to Saint Leo 8-7 in overtime. The Spartans are led by attacker Joey McMahan, and midfielders Greg Griffo and Nick Ferreiro. McMahan led the Spartans with seven assists and 12 points, while Griffo has netted a team-high nine goals. Ferreiro leads Tampa with 17 ground balls and has a .461 faceoff win percentage. Joseph Fiorucci has made 36 saves so far this season.

Coker comes into this weekend with 1-3 record. The Cobras will face Florida Tech tonight before traveling across the state for Sunday's game. Coker is led by attackers Keith Leclair and Ryan Maurer, and midfielder Mike Martiello. Leclair leads the Cobras with seven goals and 11 points, while Maurer has netted five goals and dished out four assists. Martiello leads Coker with 22 ground balls. Goalie Josh Masciarelli has made 52 saves. Tampa won last year's meeting with Coker 10-4.

Wingate comes into the weekend with a 1-4 record, including 0-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs will face Rollins on Sunday before Tuesday's night game with the Spartans. The Bulldogs are led by attacker Derek Watts, midfielder Ryan Vogrig, and goalie Patrick Cooney. Watts leads Wingate in goals (14), assists (8), and points (22), while Vogrig has a .544 faceoff win percentage and has picked up a team-high 22 ground balls. Cooney has made 54 saves and has a .495 save percentage. Tampa won last year's meeting 8-7.

Catawba, ranked #11 in the country, is 2-1 after falling to Pfeiffer 16-8 on Wednesday afternoon. The Indians will play three straight road conference games next week against Lenoir-Rhyne, Saint Leo, and Tampa. Catawba is led by attacker John Scheich, and midfielders Tom Cullop and Daniel Rew. Scheich leads the Indians with 10 goals and 16 points, while Cullop has tallied seven assists. Rew has picked up 16 ground balls and has a .705 faceoff win percentage. Last season Catawba defeated Tampa 13-9, which was the Spartans lone regular season conference loss.

Tickets will be available at the gate for $5. Children 13 and under are free. UT students, faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid Spartan ID.
