SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team will host the third-annual Orange Alumni Classic at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Oct. 13. The only scrimmage of the Orange’s fall practice season, this year’s event features two games. The first is a “Legend’s Game” beginning at 1:30 p.m. The second match, which will begin at approximately 3 p.m., pits a team of recent SU alums against the 2012-13 Orange squad.
Both games are open to the public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX). All proceeds go directly to the men’s lacrosse program. Parking is free in the surface lots across from the Dome.
Led by five-time NCAA champion head coach John Desko, Syracuse is coming off a 9-8 season in which it won the inaugural BIG EAST Conference championship, and made its 32nd NCAA Tournament appearance.
Syracuse returns seven of its 10 starters from a year ago, including All-American Brian Megill (Clark, N.J.) who led the Orange defense with a school-record 37 caused turnovers last season.
Junior Derek Maltz (Ashburn, Va.) and senior JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) are back to lead the offense. Maltz paced the Orange with 28 goals in 2012. Marasco totaled 31 points, including 19 assists, on his way to 2012 All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades.
The team that will oppose this year’s Orange features some of the sport’s premier players, including Team USA mainstay Mike Leveille, 2012 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Stars Jovan Miller, Stephen Keogh and Joel White, and MLL all-time leading scorer Casey Powell.
A complete roster for the Syracuse Alumni All-Stars will be released in the days leading up to the event.
