Syracuse Lacrosse Scores for the Food Bank of CNY

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets donated $2,750 in Tops gift cards to the Food Bank of Central New York on Friday, Dec. 16 as part of the “Score for the Food Bank” partnership between Syracuse University and Tops.

For each goal scored by the Orange men’s lacrosse team in the Carrier Dome during the 2011 regular season, Tops made a $25 donation to the Food Bank of Central New York. Syracuse scored 109 goals in nine games. The number of goals was rounded up to 110 to bring the total donation to $2,750.

“The Food Bank is such a great cause,” SU head lacrosse coach John Desko said. “I’m glad our team could work with Tops to help an organization that does so much to fight hunger in our community.”

In addition to “Score for the Food Bank,” Tops Friendly Markets made contributions to the Food Bank of Central New York on behalf of the Syracuse football and men’s basketball teams through the “Touchdowns for Turkeys” and “Jams for Slams” programs in 2010-11. During the 2010 football season, Tops donated seven turkeys for every touchdown the Orange scored at the Carrier Dome. For basketball last year, cases of peanut butter and jelly were donated for every Orange slam dunk at home.

Friday’s presentation of the gift cards occurred at the Airport Plaza Tops store in North Syracuse. It was part of a larger overall donation by Tops to the Food Bank.
