The 1990 Syracuse men's lacrosse team is considered by many to be the best college team ever. Undefeated, owners of what would be NCAA per-game records for scoring margin (11.31 goals), average goals (20.85) and average points (33.31), winners of their third straight national title and featuring five first-team All-Americans (attackmen Greg Burns and Tom Marechek, midfielders Paul and Gary Gait and defenseman Pat McCabe), Syracuse beat Loyola 21-9 in the ’90 national championship game.

Yet this team and those legendary players won't be recognized at this year's Final Four when the NCAA typically honors the 25th Anniversary Championship Team. That's because the NCAA vacated that championship and those records, placing an asterisk next to Syracuse's title. To this day, the 1990 NCAA men's lacrosse Division I championship plaque remains missing.

The Lost Trophy is a story that celebrates a team that continues to inspire today's players with their creativity and innovation under the unique leadership of Roy Simmons Jr., explores Gary and Paul Gait's impact on the game and Syracuse's bitter rivalry with Johns Hopkins, explains why the NCAA took away Syracuse's 1990 title and details the mystery behind the trophy's current whereabouts.

After interviewing more than 30 subjects over eight months, The Lost Trophy debuts on Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m., on ESPNU, kicking off wall-to-wall coverage of the men's DI lacrosse NCAA Tournament. ESPNU re-airs The Lost Trophy on Tuesday, 5/12 at 10 p.m. and then again Wednesday, 5/13 at 7 p.m.

Syracuse All-Americans and film subjects Pat McCabe and Tom Marechek are available for comment. Executive Producer Brett Jefferson and Producer/Director Fred Cambria are also available for comment.

The Lost Trophy is available for rent and purchase on the Vimeo On Demand platform. An advance version of the full film is available upon request.
