Harlem, NY — June 10, 2013 — On June 13, 25 middle school boys from Harlem, NYC, will share a field with the New York Lizards and the Scarsdale Youth Lacrosse Program to support summer academic intervention and lacrosse training for boys and girls in Harlem.
The Lizards have made 85 tickets available to Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership to raise funds for summer camp programming, which provides three weeks of tutoring to fight summer learning loss, as well as lacrosse practices, clinics, scrimmages, and field trips. The Lizards are excited to be involved with HLL. Sal LaMonica of the NY Lizards says of the event: “The Lizards are very excited to be involved with HLL. Not only is it a great way to help the Lizards reach out to the New York City market, but it's a great way to help grow the sport of lacrosse. HLL is a wonderful organization that is dedicated not only to helping young athletes grow as lacrosse players, but as people. I am hoping these are just the first steps in a long-lasting relationship with HLL.”
HLL will stay on the field with the Lizards for their pregame warm-up and entrance. Wyatt Melzer, HLL’s Program Director at P.S. 149 the Sojourner Truth School sees this not only as a tremendous opportunity for students meet their favorite players. He added: “Our students will also see that no matter how successful someone becomes, giving back to the community is important.”
Following their game with the Nationals, the Lizards will meet and greet HLL students. HLL strives to broaden the horizons of its students by introducing them to individuals who have used lacrosse as a jumping off point for personal and professional success. In the past year, HLL has visited the University of Virginia, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton University for tours and talks with lacrosse players who are taking advantage of the educational opportunities provided by lacrosse.
HLL, through its admission services program, has also helped 16 students earn over $5.2 million in scholarships from elite preparatory and secondary schools such as Groton, Peddie, George, and Kent Schools.
All proceeds from the sale of HLL’s tickets to the game will directly benefit the program. To purchase tickets, please visit: www.nylizards.com/HL
