Stars & Stripes Weekend Moves Location

DURHAM, N.C.-The men and women's lacrosse games for Stars and Stripes Weekend originally scheduled for Oct. 9 have been moved from Duke University's campus to Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C., due to the overwhelming interest in the contests.

The games will feature the U.S. men and women's national senior teams against local competition. The Duke men's lacrosse team will take on the U.S. on Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at Cardinal Gibbons High School. The other two games at Cardinal Gibbons will be a pair of games between the U.S. women's squad and Navy at 9 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.

The player clinics and games scheduled for Saturday, October 8, will continue to be held at the turf lacrosse fields next to Duke University's Koskinen Stadium. Those games will be the U.S. women's team versus North Carolina at 5 and 7 p.m.

Admission for Sunday's games is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and children under the age of 6 will be admitted for free. There is no charge for admission to the games on Saturday night. Current US Lacrosse members who show their valid membership card will receive a $2 discount. Tickets can be purchased online before October 7 at www.uslacrosse.org/starsstripes2011 or at the stadium on the day of the game. All youth and high school players who attend Saturday's clinic will receive complimentary admission to Sunday's games. All proceeds go directly to the U.S. National Teams program and are used to offset the costs of travel and training throughout the year.

The U.S. will be coached by former Blue Devil All-American Kevin Cassese. Cassese captained the squad that captured the 2010 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship. Recent Duke graduates Ned Crotty and Matt Danowski will don the red, white and blue. Crotty won the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy and was a two-time first team All-American, while Danowski captured the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy and earned first team All-America accolades three times.

Under the direction of sixth-year head coach John Danowski, the Blue Devils welcome eight freshmen to the team. Duke returns 32 players, including four All-America choices, from last year's squad that finished 14-6 and advanced to the NCAA semifinals.
