November 9, 2010 – Sportsgrants Foundation, producer of original fundraising programs Fight Gone Bad and Spinning Nation, has launched its next fundraising initiative, the 2nd Annual Men's Lacrosse Mustache Madness.
During the month of November, US professional, collegiate and high school lacrosse teams will compete in a contest to grow the biggest, craziest Mad ‘Stache while raising money for the HEADstrong Foundation. Growing from the 18 collegiate lacrosse teams participating last year, the second annual fundraiser already has 46 US Men’s lacrosse teams registered.
The event, conceived collectively by the Sportsgrants Foundation, University of Virginia lacrosse athletic trainer Rebecca Vozzo, who’s dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006, and pro lacrosse defenseman Ken Clausen, rallies the tight knit lacrosse community to raise money and awareness for cancers affecting men.
With Ken Clausen at the helm and no stranger to the spotlight, he has a playful and powerful way of reminding his favorite community how lucky they are and they have a responsibility to give back a little when they can.
Warrior Sports and Oakley support this year’s event.
How It Works
Professional, collegiate and high school men’s lacrosse teams simply register at www.stashmadness.org to create their own dedicated team fundraising page. Once created, each member can easily share their page with fans, friends, and family through Facebook, Twitter and email to have them donate money for the cause.
Who It Benefits
Funds raised benefit the HEADstrong Foundation, founded by lacrosse player Nick Colleluori, who died of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006, and support its mission of raising awareness, supporting families and generating funds for cancer research.

Spokesperson Quotes
Rebecca Vozzo said: “At the time, I knew next to nothing about cancers that effect men. My hope is that Men’s Lacrosse Mustache Madness will grow each year and we'll continue to educate more young men around the country until the day we find a cure for these cancers.”
Pat Colleluori, HEADStrong Foundation's Director of Development and brother to Nick Colleluori, said: "We are honored to be a beneficiary of this event. By taking the expensive and inefficient burden of event fundraising away, Sportsgrants makes it possible for us to focus on carrying out our mission of helping others with this disease."
Sportsgrants Foundation Founder Scott Zagarino said: "Sportsgrants exists because of people like Rebecca, and the people who actually get out of the stands and pick up a stick. Because of people like these, our three-person foundation has raised more than $4.8 million dollars in three years, and given more than 90% of it to people who need help right now, today. Our motto is, 'Ease the suffering we can today, because there are no tomorrows promised.' Thanks for reminding us Rebecca."
