Shootout for Soldiers, 24 Hour Lacrosse Game to Benefit Wounded Warrior Project

Shootout for Soldiers, 24 Hour Lacrosse Game to Benefit Wounded Warrior Project

A group of local, high school students has organized what stands to be a world-record breaking event called Shootout for Soldiers. The Shootout is a 24-hour lacrosse game with all proceeds going to support the Wounded Warrior Project in its effort to aid wounded US soldiers. The event, which will be held at The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland on June 14-15th, will seek to use the common platform of lacrosse to unite local area lacrosse players ages 10+ in the common benefit of the Wounded Warrior Project. Participants will be a part of one of two teams - Stars or Stripes - and will sign-up to play in one-hour time slots grouped by similar age and skill level. In additional to immense support from high school groups, there has already been a positive response from youth leagues to the college and professional levels. Even a group of fathers who played in their youth are gathering a team to reunite for this event.

"I think the Shootout for Soldiers is a great way to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The men and women who serve this country give up so much in order to protect our freedoms here. Using the platform of the country's fastest growing sport in order to raise money and awareness for our wounded service members and veterans is a great way to get the message out." - Kyle Hartzell (Washington Stealth, Ohio Machine)

“Using the game of lacrosse to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project sounds like an event that the Greater Baltimore Community could get behind in a big way. We could make a significant difference in the lives of wounded American soldiers through a game with deep roots in the area, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
- Bob Shriver (Head Coach at Boys’ Latin School of Maryland)

“I’m excited at the opportunity to give back to those who defend our country everyday, and to do so through the sport of lacrosse. These men and women lay their lives on the line to defend our country, and we can’t thank them enough.”
-Steele Stanwick (Sr. Attackman at the University of Virginia)

“Our soldiers give up so much to protect our country, and I was really hoping to give back to them in some way. I think that using the common platform of lacrosse can help rally the Baltimore area in support of our nation’s soldiers. I hope that we can gather people from across generations to unite under a common game for this common cause.”
