Philadelphia, Pa. - First year head coach Taylor Wray announces the addition of Kevin Crowley to the men's lacrosse coaching staff.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the Saint Joseph's University lacrosse team," said the newly acquired Crowley. "Having played for Coach Wray with team Canada in 2010, I know he brings a wealth of knowledge to this team and I look forward to learning from him and his coaching staff this spring. I feel there is tremendous potential here at SJU and I'm excited to help this program reach a new level of success."
Crowley brings an unmatched abundance of collegiate lacrosse experience from Stony Brook University. In 2010, he was named the Unanimous America East Player of the Year along with earning the 2010 LT. Raymond J. Enners Award for Most Outstanding Player in Division 1 lacrosse. A two-time First Team All-American selection, Crowley played for Canada's National Lacrosse Team in 2010.
The New Westminster, B.C. native was a member of the 2009 and 2010 America East Men's Lacrosse Honor roll and All Academic Teams. He double majored in Business Management and Psychology earning his degrees in May of 2011.
"Kevin Crowley is among the premier players in the game today, but more importantly, he is a person of impeccable character who will act as a great teacher and mentor for the young men in our program," said Wray.
Crowley comes to Philadelphia by way of the National Lacrosse League. He was selected number one overall by the Philadelphia Wings in September's draft. After a strong eight-point performance in the opening game of the 2012 season, Crowley earned Rookie of the Week honors for his efforts.
"While Kevin is playing professionally here in Philadelphia, he wanted to start his college coaching career and we are thrilled to have him join our staff. He brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and experience and more than anything he knows what it takes to compete and win at the highest level. He will be working with Coach Keating to help develop our offensive personal and will have the responsibility of coaching our White Team."
The Hawks are set to open up the season on February 11 when they host Lehigh at 2:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
