Kansas City, MO - Beginning with the 2013 lacrosse season, Rockhurst High School Hawklets will join 14 area teams in the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City (LAKC).
Rockhurst has competed for 18 seasons in the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association (MSLA), which until LAKC formed last year was the only association in the region. The other 12 Division 1 MSLA teams are all located in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Rockhurst won the MSLA championship five times and took second place three times.
“There couldn’t be a more perfect time to join the LAKC with the growth of lacrosse in the Kansas City metropolitan area,” said Tim Reidy, Rockhurst head lacrosse coach. “The youth and high school lacrosse programs have improved tremendously in the last 10 years. Rockhurst has enjoyed the rivalries we have built with the lacrosse teams in St. Louis, and we plan to continue playing many of them in the regular season. In addition, we look forward to competing against many of Rockhurst’s traditional rivals including Shawnee Mission East, St. Thomas Aquinas and Blue Valley North.”
The LAKC includes varsity teams from: Blue Valley North, Blue Valley West, Leavenworth, Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit North, Lee’s Summit West, Mill Valley, Olathe East, Olathe South, Park Hill South, Pembroke Hill, Shawnee Mission East, Shawnee Mission South and St. Thomas Aquinas.
For its second year, LAKC will partner with Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS to host the League Championship Game and with Metro Sports to televise a “Game of the Week.”
“This is an exciting time for LAKC, and I am looking forward to the continued growth of our sport,” said Forest Milledge, LAKC president.
