SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Southern Conference released its academic honor roll for the 2014-15 academic year on Monday, with 1,822 student-athletes from the 10 member institutions and nine associate members earning the distinction.
Richmond men's lacrosse placed 28 of its student-athletes on the Honor Roll, over 60 percent of the roster, with rising junior Jackson Cabot (Dedham, Massachusetts) and rising senior Brian Gramolini (Belmont, Massachusetts) earning a Commissioner's Medal.
Cabot earned All-Academic Honors from the SoCon earlier this month. He is one of just eight Spiders to appear in all 33 program contests. He is part of a stingy Richmond defense that was second in the country in scoring defense by allowing 7.44 goals per game.
Gramolini studied as an exchange student last fall at the University of Economics in Prague last fall before joining the Spiders in time for the 2015 season. He appeared in five games for the Spiders this season, including the first-ever SoCon game, a 20-1 home win over in-state league foe VMI on March 7.
The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher while passing at least 24 hours in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic calendars. Associate members are eligible for the award for the first time this year.

Of the nearly 2,000 student-athletes on the list, 903 earned the Commissioner’s Medal, awarded annually to student-athletes who attain a GPA of 3.5 or higher throughout the year. That number is the second-highest in conference history, trailing only the 915 who earned the Commissioner’s Medal in 2012-13, when the league had 12 full members.

The honor roll includes all 20 SoCon-sponsored sports as well as the non-sponsored sports of men’s lacrosse, swimming and diving, water polo, sand volleyball and rifle.
