Rams Race Past Ducks to Move to 2-0

Palm Desert, CA – The Colorado State University Rams got goals from 11 different players and a combined 13 saves from its goaltenders in an impressive 14-7 victory over the #8 Oregon Ducks on Sunday morning in the closing game of the inaugural Lax Coaches vs. Cancer event. CSU rode a decisive 5-1 second quarter to a 7-3 halftime advantage and then outscored the Ducks 4-1 in the fourth to salt away the victory.

The Rams struck quickly in the first quarter and led 2-0 after just 3:19 had elapsed. But the Ducks battled back behind Evan Merritt’s two goals to tie the score at the end of the first period. CSU then rattled off the game’s next five goals to take control of the contest.

After the teams tied the third quarter, CSU took over again in the final frame, hammering home four goals in a row to give the Rams a 14-6 lead. Oregon scored a goal in each quarter’s final minute, including the final goal of the game from Matt Samet.

Junior attackman Mike Wolff (Don Bosco Prep; Ramsey, NJ) led all scorers with two goals and three assists while senior Kacy Carter (Rock Canyon HS; Castle Rock, CO) and sophomore Brian Allen (Judge Memorial HS; Salt Lake City, UT) each had two goals to lead the Rams. CSU had eight other players score a goal in the balanced offensive effort.

Colorado State (2-0 overall, 0-0 RMLC) returns to Fort Collins next weekend for a home game against the #13 Texas Longhorns. Texas is 6-0 on the young season and will face the University of Colorado on Friday night in Boulder.
