BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh sophomore goalie Matt Poillon has garnered the Patriot League’s Goalie of the Week award for the second week in a row after stopping 16 of 25 shots sent his way in Saturday’s big win over Villanova. This marks the eighth-career weekly award for the All-American netminder after earning Goalie of the Week four times and Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman.
Poillon made 16 saves in Saturday’s 11-9 win, tying a career high. Each save proved important in a slim two-goal road win as he helped Lehigh win at Villanova for the first time since 1997 while improving to 2-0 for the first time since 2000. He owns a 5.23 GAA and 70.6 save percentage for the season.
Senior David DiMaria also earned honorable mention recognition on the Patriot League Weekly honor roll for the second week in a row. DiMaria carried the offense with his second straight seven-point game to begin the season, posting three goals and four assists.
The Mountain Hawks jumped to number eight in the Nike Division I Top 20 Media Poll, three places ahead of their upcoming opponent, Denver. Lehigh fell to 12th in the first in-season USILA Coaches Poll.
The Mountain Hawks returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Denver, Colorado to face #11/11 Denver Pioneers and Air Force on Sunday as part of the Face-Off Classic.
