BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior goalie Matt Poillon has been named an Inside Lacrosse second team preseason All-American while classmate Dan Taylor has earned honorable mention recognition as announced on Monday. In addition, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team is ranked 15th in Inside Lacrosse's annual Face-Off Yearbook. The Mountain Hawks' defense is ranked sixth in the nation while junior defenseman Tripp Telesco has also been named preseason All-Patriot League by the publication.
Lehigh is the second-ranked Patriot League team in the Faceoff Yearbook national rankings, only trailing Loyola (seven) while standing ahead of Army (18). The Mountain Hawks also host Denver on Mar. 17, ranked #1 in the preseason rankings, and Princeton (ranked 20th). Lehigh is also ranked #18 in the preseason Coaches Poll. The Mountain Hawks have stood in the national rankings for most of the last three seasons, reaching as high as #4 late in 2011-12.
A three-time USILA All-American, Poillon has stood among the nation's elite goalies since stepping foot on campus. He owns an impressive 37-11 record in his career, with a 7.25 goals against average and .589 save percentage. Poillon was the Patriot League Goalie of the Year as a freshman and sophomore while earning second team All-League honors and honorable All-America recognition once again as a junior.
Taylor has developed into one of the nation's top attackmen, leading the Patriot League with 76 points last season, which was also most among Canadians in Division I lacrosse. The Calgary, Alberta native tallied multiple points in each of the last eight games and 13 of his 17 games for the season. Taylor played his best when it mattered most, earning the final three Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week awards and posting eight points against the nation's top-ranked scoring defense (Army) in the league semifinals.
Following a strong fall campaign, the Mountain Hawks look ahead to a challenging spring 2015 slate. Lehigh is looking to advance to a fourth straight Patriot League Championship Game and win a third title in that span. The Mountain Hawks are also looking to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years.
