Local Lacrosse Programs Awarded $185,000 in Grants and Scholarships from PNC
Baltimore, Md. (February 26, 2015) – PNC Bank today announced the matchups for the second annual PNC Lacrosse Invitational. The showcase features two games pairing nationally ranked boys high school lacrosse teams from Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
The matchups are set for Saturday, March 28, at Loyola University Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex. The first game faces off at 6:30 p.m. between local powerhouses St. Paul’s School (No.5) and Georgetown Prep (No. 11). The second game pits Baltimore’s McDonogh School (No. 4) against Pennsylvania’s Episcopal Academy at 8:30 p.m.
“Lacrosse is a proud Maryland tradition, but the passion for the sport extends well beyond state lines,” said Laura Gamble, PNC regional president for Greater Maryland. “We had such a positive response from the schools and fans last year. We are delighted to showcase these exceptional regional teams and offer the lacrosse community playoff caliber matchups in mid-season.”
“PNC has shown tremendous support for this event and it will be a highlight our players will always remember,” said Andy Hilgartner, McDonogh School head coach. “We’ve had some great games against Episcopal Academy and look forward to facing a strong team. Representing Baltimore, as well as McDonogh School, in an event that includes some of the top teams in the country, is something we are very excited about and will certainly drive us to work even harder this preseason.”
Since 2010, PNC has contributed $185,000 to area high school lacrosse athletic programs and organizations to support competitive play and broaden access and awareness for the sport. PNC’s commitment to high school lacrosse started with the sponsorship of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and has extended to include the Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAAM), and Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Lacrosse Championships.
Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc., the sports marketing and event management firm that operates other high-profile events in the Baltimore area such as the Baltimore Running Festival and Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, will host the PNC Invitational.
