PLL reveals fresh look for 8th franchise, Cannons LC

The Premiere Lacrosse League unveiled the rebrand for its newest franchise, Cannons LC, on Tuesday.

The former Major League Lacrosse franchise is set to take the field as the league's eighth team following the PLL-MLL merger that took place on December 16. The team revealed its new look in a short hype video narrated by former Cannon and now PLL analyst, Ryan Boyle.

“Core to the relaunch is paying homage to the community and long history of success that has been cultivated under the Boston Cannons leadership and ownership,” PLL CEO and cofounder Mike Rabil said. “While we work to bring the Cannons into the Premier Lacrosse League, we do so armed with 20 years of Cannons history, including two MLL Championships and countless legendary performances.”

The rebrand saw the league implement the fan favorite "crossed cannons" logo, previously seen on the Cannons' helmets, into the team crest. This change aligns the team stylistically with the design of the PLL's seven other franchises.

“The relaunch of the Boston Cannons as Cannons LC is the first step in what will be an exciting 2021, a new chapter for professional lacrosse,” said Ian Fernette, who has served as president of the Cannons for the past five years. “The Cannons look forward to continuing our relationship with our partners and dedicated fans under refreshed marks as a part of the now-unified professional lacrosse landscape.”

The league has also indicated interest in maintaining local relationships within historic MLL communities, including Boston — the original home city of the Cannons. With the PLL having the capabilities to bring back any of the former MLL franchise, this may not be the last we see of an old friend as the league continues to grow.
