The Patriot Cup Lacrosse Tournament, the largest lacrosse tournament in Texas, presented a $10,000 donation to representatives of the Wounded Warrior organization on Sat., Nov. 16, at SMU’s Ford Stadium, during halftime of the UConn Huskies at SMU Mustangs football game.
Representatives from both organizations and sponsors were part of the halftime presentation. Kevin and Carol MacGibbon, graduates of West Point, and Daniel Miller, retired Marine F-4 fighter pilot, represented Patriot Cup, while Esteban Garcia, retired U.S. Army combat medic and paratrooper, accepted the donation on behalf of Wounded Warrior. Also on hand were Tim Perkins, president of Patriot Cup and tournament sponsor, and Bill Addy, president and CEO of ISN Global and tournament sponsor. Other sponsors included Classic BMW and Cowboys Stadium.
The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization that seeks to assist men and women of the armed forces who have been severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world. In November of 2003, while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, Garcia sustained multiple injuries in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged from the Army in January 2006.
Next year – March 1-2, 2014 – the Patriot Cup will once again showcase some of the nation’s premier collegiate and high school programs in the sixth annual Patriot Cup, benefitting Wounded Warrior.
