COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College has hired Pat Ivory '08 as the interim head coach of its men's lacrosse team. A former four-year player and three-year assistant coach at the College, Ivory succeeds Brian Kingsbury, who left earlier this month to take the head coach position at Lynn (Fla.) University.In his three seasons as an assistant at Saint Michael's, between 2009 and 2011, Ivory helped lead the Purple Knights to a 23-20 record, including a 10-6 campaign in 2011, during which the team reached the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals and was 8-2 in league play. That year, Saint Michael's was also nationally ranked while at one point sitting atop the New England Intercollegiate Coaches Association (NEILA) poll.
After assisting the Purple Knights under Kingsbury during the fall season in 2011, Ivory worked as the head coach of the Middlebury Union High School varsity boys' lacrosse team last spring, guiding the Tigers to an 8-10 finish after inheriting a team that went 2-30 during the previous two years combined. Middlebury earned a postseason victory before falling in double overtime during a quarterfinal to the eventual state runner-up.
Since 2010, Ivory has helped develop lacrosse players as a coach with VTribe Lacrosse, the largest club in the state. Ivory founded the Lax by the Lake men's lacrosse tournament in 2009, which annually occurs in Colchester. A certified US Lacrosse member, Ivory has gained additional experience working at Dartmouth College's East Coast Lacrosse Camp, the University of Vermont's Nike Lacrosse Camp, and as a coordinator for boys' and girls' lacrosse camps at The Field House in Shelburne.
A defender during his undergraduate years, Ivory picked up 16 ground balls in 25 career contests as he helped the Purple Knights go 34-26 while making four postseason appearances. Ivory, who twice earned a spot on the Dean's List, earned a degree in history in 2008 and is pursuing a master's degree at the College in education. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native currently works at Colchester High School, where he is a teacher in the Special Education department.
