New England Black Wolves to relocate to Albany

On Monday, the Albany Times Union confirmed reports that the New England Black Wolves plan to relocate to Albany, New York. An announcement from the National Lacrosse League is set to come on Tuesday.

With the relocation, the franchise will be sold to an ownership group led by former Brown University All-American and NLL alumnus Oliver Marti. Marti played two seasons with the New York Saints of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (known today as the NLL) from 1994 to 1995. Marti is also currently an investor in the PLL and a member of the board of directors and key investor in Epoch Lacrosse.

The Black Wolves spent the the last six seasons in New England at the Mohegan Sun Arena after relocating from Philadelphia. This will be the second iteration of professional box lacrosse in Albany. The Albany Attack played in the state capital from 2000 to 2003.

There is no word yet on whether the new Albany franchise will retain the Black Wolves name or color scheme, adopt the Albany Attack moniker or opt for a new name and color scheme entirely. Yet, that hasn't stopped some of us from speculating what the new Albany franchise could look like.
