WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University head men’s lacrosse coach Brian Fisher recently revealed the Hawks’ 2015 schedule, which features 13 games for the second-year program, as the Hawks will have six home contests at Monmouth Stadium.
“With our inaugural season now behind us, our entire program is looking forward to the 2015 season and all the challenges that our spring schedule will bring,” stated Fisher, whose Hawks ranked eighth in saves and 13th in caused turnovers per game in the NCAA in 2014.
Monmouth opens the 2015 campaign with a pair of home games, as the Hawks host Wagner, which narrowly escaped with a 7-6 win over the Blue & White last season in four overtimes (February 17) and UMBC (February 21), which finished ninth in the NCAA in goals-per-game as season ago and advanced to the America East Conference Championship Game, both in Monmouth Stadium.
The Hawks open a four-game road swing at Rutgers (February 28), before competing at defending Northeast Conference regular season champion Saint Joseph’s, which went 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the NEC (March 7). Monmouth plays its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) league game on the road as part of the swing, as the Hawks travel to Marist (March 14), which advanced the MAAC Championship Game in 2014, and closes out its road trip at NJIT (March 17), as part of the Highlanders’ first season of Division I lacrosse.
On March 21, the Blue & White host defending MAAC regular season and tournament champions, Siena, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, before entertaining Lehigh (March 24), which advanced to the Patriot League title game as the No. 18 team in the nation a season ago. Monmouth closes out its non-conference portion of the slate with a road contest at Lafayette (March 31).
In a rematch of a 5-4 road loss last season, the Hawks host Canisius (April 4) as part of a doubleheader with the Monmouth women’s team, before heading to Detroit Mercy (April 11) for a league game with the Titans in Detroit, Michigan.
The Hawks play their final league road game at Quinnipiac (April 18), before rounding out the schedule with a match against Manhattan (April 25) at Monmouth Stadium.
“As a team, we have matured in so many ways in one short year,” Fisher added, “That alone would be enough to be excited about for the upcoming season, but combine that with the hard work from this past fall and the daily commitment our team has displayed, we are anxious to get started next semester.”
The 2015 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championships are slated for May 1 and 3 at the site of the No. 1 seed, and will feature the top four teams in the regular season standings, vying for the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
