Monmouth University Men's Lacrosse Additions: 2014 Goalies

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - First-year Monmouth University men’s lacrosse head coach Brian Fisher announced the first two student-athletes to attend Monmouth and compete for the Hawks in 2014, unveiling the goalkeeping position additions. Fisher and assistant coach Andrew Geison have received commitments from Brian Bedell (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and Nick Hreshko (Warrington, Pa./La Salle College High School).

“I cannot think of a better position to get started with than in the cage," stated Fisher. "We have two outstanding young men in Brian and Nick, as both will be great ambassadors for Monmouth University, have strong lacrosse backgrounds and possess a lot of talent that will help us immediately on the field. I could not be more excited to have these two on campus next fall.”

Bedell, a goalkeeper, who played club lacrosse with Team United, posted a .768 save percentage as a junior, while making 86 saves. Bedell, who competed in the 2011 Brown Tournament All-Star Game and the John Pepper Tournament All-Star Game, helped lead his Fayetteville-Manlius team to a second place conference finish, and was also a wide receiver and defensive back on the football squad.

“Brian had a good junior year and came on strong late in the summer,” stated Fisher. “He is a very talented goalie, who plays with a lot of energy, has quick hands, good positioning and an excellent stick.”

Hreshko. who also plays center on the La Salle College ice hockey team, has been part of three Philadelphia Catholic League championship teams with the Explorers, including a pair of lacrosse titles. The lacrosse team, which has posted a combined 48-15 record with Hreshko on the roster in three seasons, won the PCL and District 12 championships in 2012 and was a state finalist.

“Nick is a dual sport athlete who comes from one of the premier programs in the Philadelphia area," noted Fisher. "He is solid in all areas but is an excellent communicator, sees the ball well and is adept at anticipating shots and their location.”

Monmouth, which will start Division I men's lacrosse action in 2014, is a private, mid-sized, coeducational, comprehensive University founded in 1933. It serves residential and commuter students in eight schools and is less than a mile from the Atlantic Ocean on the Jersey Shore in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
