BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse teamed up with the New Balance Foundation to raise $28,000 for the HEADstrong Foundation, a charity that raises money for blood cancer in honor of Nicholas Colleluori, a former Hofstra lacrosse player who passed away in 2006.The HEADstrong Foundation was named the official charity of the 2012 MLL All-Star Game, which was held in Palm Beach County, Fla. on June 30.
Following the MLL All-Star Game, players signed their game-worn jerseys. The jerseys were auctioned on the MLL auction site with the proceeds going to the HEADstrong Foundation. The auction raised $14,000, which the NB Foundation generously agreed to match, bringing the total to $28,000.
“The funds generated through this event will be instrumental in providing the blood cancer population with resources and quality of life services offered by the HEADstrong Foundation,” said HEADstrong Foundation President Cheryl Colleluori. “It has been a pleasure to work along side of the MLL this season; further demonstrating the Foundation’s association to the sport of lacrosse. From the bottom of our hearts we wish to thank MLL for recognizing our cause in the fight against these diseases.”
A check will be presented to the HEADstrong Foundation during the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend on August 25 and 26 at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass. Tickets are available here through Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Boston Cannons at 617-746-9933 ext. 1.
