Millsaps Majors Name Hoeffler Head Coach

JACKSON- The Millsaps Majors have named John Hoeffler the new men's lacrosse head coach and he becomes the second coach in program history.

Hoeffler comes to Millsaps from Misericordia University where he was an assistant coach. He replaces Luke Beam, who was named the head coach at his alma mater Messiah College in July.

"I would first like to thank President Dr. Pearigen, Dean Katz, Director of Athletics Coach Wise and the entire Millsaps community for this great opportunity," Hoeffler said.

Hoeffler helped lead the Misericordia program to its most successful season in program history when it reached the conference championship game. He coached seven All-Conference selections, four All-Conference players of the week and five MAC academic honor roll students, all program records.

"With my experience and success as a student-athlete, high school Head Coach, and Division III assistant coach, I am looking forward to bringing Majors lacrosse to the next level," Hoeffler said.

Prior to Misericordia, Hoeffler coached the Chiefs High School lacrosse program in Orland Park, IL. He was 18-3 at the high school level and led the program to a top-5 ranking and a state semi-final appearance.

Hoeffler played at Division III power Widener University as a 4-year starter at midfield where he graduated with a degree in sociology. He helped lead the team to three conference titles and NCAA appearances. He achieved all-conference honors as a senior in 2011.

He is a native of Cranford, New Jersey where he helped start the high school's lacrosse team and city's youth lacrosse program. He currently resides in Jackson and is working towards his Masters in Organizational Management from Misericordia University.

"I am looking forward to bringing in strong student-athletes looking to compete at a high level both academically and athletically," Hoeffler said. "With the excellent academic curriculum and support in place, I am eager to continue to build off of what Coach Beam has started here and would like thank him for his hard work and wish him the best of luck at his Alma Mater."
