Michael Rowse and Jovan Miller Join Queens University Lacrosse Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Jim Fritz is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Rowse and Jovan Miller to his men’s lacrosse coaching staff this season. Rowse and Miller will serve as assistant coaches to Fritz.

“We have been very fortunate to hire some very good young assistants in the past here starting with Taylor Wray, who went on to be the head coach at D-I St. Joseph’s,” said Coach Fritz. “Most recently we had Jake Baxter and Andrew Athens who both moved into D-I assistant positions, and I think we’ve gotten two very good young assistants again in Mike and Jovan. They each bring some great qualities to the job and I am excited to have them both here. I am anxious to see how they develop and impact our program.”

Rowse comes to the Royals after serving as the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. While with W&J, Rowse worked as the defensive coordinator. His responsibilities included defensive player development, defensive schemes and defensive game planning. He also had recruiting duties for seven states, and assisted in budgeting, fundraising, alumni relations, academic advisement, preparation of practice plans, and supervision of weight training programs.

Prior to becoming a collegiate coach, Rowse was a student-athlete at Robert Morris University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a specialization in marketing. He also minored in hospitality and tourism management.

Rowse has also worked as a coach with the Maryland Raptors Lacrosse, FASTLAX Lacrosse and the Pittsburgh Revolution Lacrosse Clubs.

Miller is currently a Major League Lacrosse player for the Charlotte Hounds. This past season he earned a spot in the all-star game with his action packed play on the field. Miller first entered the league in 2011 as the eighth pick in the draft by the Rochester Rattlers. Prior to joining the MLL, Miller competing in the National Lacrosse League with the Colorado Mammoth who selected him at number 47 in the draft.

“There have been nothing but great things happening to me since I moved to Charlotte, and this may be the best thus far,” said Miller. “I'm excited to help Queens on the journey to taking the next step towards a championship.”

Miller was a member of the Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team from 2008-2011 earning spots on the 2011 USILA All-American Second and the 2010 USILA All-American Third Teams. The Orange captured NCAA Division I Championships in 2008 and 2009. He was also named to the All Big East Conference First Team for two consecutive seasons. Miller graduated from Syracuse with a bachelor’s degree in child and family studies.

Miller has served as an assistant coach for the men’s lacrosse team at Dallas Jesuit High School, and as a camp counselor at the Syracuse University Summer Lacrosse Camp. He has also worked as a southeast region sales representative for Maverik Lacrosse.
