The Colony, TX-Bluff City Blues Lacrosse(Memphis, TN) traveled to Dallas, TX this weekend and ran the table at the Lone Star Shootout, winning six straight games on their way to the championship.
The twenty-four-man roster is made up of select sophomores, juniors and seniors from Houston High School, Collierville High School, Briarcrest, ECS and Christian Brother’s High school. “We proved that you can take boys from different schools and backgrounds in the Memphis area, and mold them into a cohesive unit working toward a common goal,” said Bobby Critselous, Director of Bluff City Blues Lacrosse.
“The coaches couldn’t have been more happy with the level of play that each player brought to them team,” said LJ Clark, coach. “Our goal was to go down there and let those teams know that we can play lacrosse, in Memphis, and that’s exactly what we did,” continued Clark.
The Lone Star Shootout showcased ten varsity teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Tennessee. The tournament is a part of Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions. With the victory, Bluff City Blues Lacrosse received an automatic bid to compete for a national championship in Tampa, Florida during New Year’s Eve weekend.
Bluff City Blues Lacrosse has brought together the best players and coaches that the Memphis area has to offer. Not only are the players from different schools, but so are the coaches, Coach Clark is from Houston Lacrosse and coach Steven Shipowitz is from Collierville Lacrosse. “Like Bobby said, we all came together, put our rivalries aside, and worked toward a common goal,” said Shipowitz. “We are all looking forward to continuing this and working to grow lacrosse in the Memphis area.”
