McDaniel and UMBC Students Win STX Internship After Competing in Sports Marketing Challenge

Baltimore, MD – Baltimore-based STX, LLC, a global sporting goods leader, announced today the winners of the 2nd annual STXtreme Internship Contest, a search for an undergraduate intern to work with the Marketing Department at STX.

Kate Goldstein, a senior Business Administration major from McDaniel College, and Matt Gregoire, a senior Sociology major at UMBC, won an internship with STX for the upcoming spring semester.

To apply, students had to submit a video under 60 seconds explaining why they wanted to work at STX and what makes them “Equipped to Perform”. Applicants posted their videos to STX’s Facebook page and recruited fans through their social networks to vote for their video.

STX received multiple entries from students representing Towson University, Loyola University, Stevenson University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, University of Maryland College Park, McDaniel College and the University of Baltimore. The top five finalists competed in the STXtreme Intern Showdown Oct 31 – Nov 5. During the showdown, finalists were each assigned an STX product to market using their creativity, social networking and marketing skills. Goldstein created a life-size painting of STX Athlete Kyle Harrison and attended local lacrosse tournaments to promote K18 gloves to youth players. For the marketing challenge, Gregoire created an Instagram video featuring the 4Sight Form goggles and used social media to spread his video.

In the Final Showdown at Hard Rock Café, the five finalists competed in head-to-head sports and marketing challenges that tested their knowledge of STX. STX ranked the top finalists based on their resumes, writing samples, application videos, marketing challenge and interview answers with help from the judging panel, including John Jiloty from Inside Lacrosse and Corey McLaughlin from Lacrosse Magazine.

The STXtreme Internship is focused on real sports marketing experience and exposure. Goldstein and Gregoire will participate in projects such as photo shoots, sales meetings and college game days as a part of their internship.
