Maryland High School Lacrosse Programs To Receive $108,000 In Scholarships From PNC Bank

Baltimore, Md.—(March 25, 2013) PNC Bank has extended its support of youth lacrosse with a three-year renewal of its title sponsorship of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAAM) and Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) championship games.

Since 2010, PNC has donated $81,000 to schools that have advanced to the championship games to benefit their academic and athletic programs. PNC will continue to provide $1,500 scholarships to all schools that reach the championship games of the IAAM, MIAA and MPSSAA for three more years, bringing PNC’s total support to nearly $200,000.

“Lacrosse is a proud tradition in Maryland and part of our sports heritage,” said Laura Gamble, PNC regional president in Greater Maryland. “By providing scholarships to these programs, we are supporting the efforts of the schools and students to carry forward Maryland’s enduring lacrosse legacy.”

“Having reached both the IAAM and the MIAA Championships in 2011 and again in 2012, Friends School has greatly benefited from PNC’s generous support of high school lacrosse,” said Greg Whitley, Friends School athletic director. “The scholarship monies have had a positive impact in the community by creating additional opportunities for families seeking a quality Friends education for their children.”

The PNC Play of the Week is a new element added to the sponsorship this year. Through May 19, parents of Maryland high school lacrosse players are encouraged to submit a photo of their team’s “play of the week,” at CBSbaltimore.com. The entries will be posted to CBSbaltimore each week, and lacrosse fans will be invited to vote for the best play. The photo with the most votes will be chosen as the weekly winner. In the final week, fans will vote for their favorite among the nine weekly winners. The team represented by the winning photo will receive a $1,500 donation for their school and a night at Camden Yards including a private suite with catering and an opportunity to make the ceremonial first pitch of the game. Visit CBSbaltimore.com for official rules.

The PNC MIAA championships will take place at Towson University on May 14 and May 17. McDaniel College will host the PNC IAAM championship May 11-12 and the Maryland State Lacrosse Championships (MPSSAA) presented by PNC will be on May 21-22 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

Local sports marketing and event management firm Corrigan Sports Enterprises secured the sponsorship between all parties.
