Mark Matthews Named Player of the Game in MLL Debut


DENVER - University of Denver senior Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario) made his Major League Lacrosse debut last night as the Denver Outlaws took on the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo. Matthews was named the Player of the Game as he scored four goals and netted two assists in his first professional game.

The Outlaws lost 18-16 to the Bayhawks.

Matthews led the Pioneers with 47 goals and 64 points during the 2012 season. He also finished the season ranked third in the nation in goals per game (2.94) and 10th in the country in points per game (5.0). The 2012 ECAC First Team honoree and two-time USILA Second-Team All-American finished his four-year career with the Pioneers, first in all-time points (216) and goals (155), while recording 30 career hat tricks.
