Lizards Acquire Second-Year Attackman Grant Catalino

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (Friday, February 17, 2012) The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced Friday that they have acquired attackman Grant Catalino from the Rochester Rattlers, according to Lizards General Manager Casey Hilpert. Catalino will enter his second season with the league this year.
“We are excited about bringing a guy like Grant into our organization,” said Hilpert. “We think he has tremendous scoring potential and will be a great fit with our new offensive look.”
Catalino was selected with the 21st pick of the 2011 Collegiate Draft, and played in eight games in his rookie season, and finished with 17 goals and two assists for 23 points. Of his 17 goals, 4 of them were two point goals. The four two point goals ties him for third in the league last season in 2-pt goals , behind long Island Lizard Stephen Peyser and in company with players like Paul Rabil, Kyle Dixon and Matt Striebel. He also, tied am MLL record by scoring 9 goals in one game against the Hamilton Nationals. He currently holds that record along with former Long Island Lizard Tim Goettelmann.

He is someone we watched throughout his career at Maryland and flourish last year in Rochester his first season as a pro. We look for Grant to step in and be a huge contributor to our offense as well as our man up unit. On behalf of the Lizards organization we welcome Grant to the Long Island Lizards” Catalino led the league in Man up goals in 2011 with 7.
Catalino will be reunited with Maryland teammate Ryan Young. In their senior season at Maryland they made a run to the NCAA National Championship game, falling just short to the Virginia Cavaliers .
The Long Island Lizards also traded MLL veteran John Grant Junior to the Chesapeake Bayhawks for a 2013 2nd round Collegiate draft pick and the rights to Matt Gibson.
