Jovan Miller, Overcoming Obstacles

#23 Jovan Miller (AKA Jovi Nation)

This is my 2nd blog for Lacrosse Playground and once again just wanted to say thank you guys for the opportunity. I wanted to give a serious perspective on some things that are going on in my life that can probably help someone else.

Many times in life, you may be faced with a challenge that may seem nearly impossible to accomplish. Whether it is the smallest of tasks or the biggest, you face a point during your time of going through where you feel like you’re not going to make it. Well, in order to overcome your period of trial, I encourage you to embrace the challenge instead of shy away from it.

If you knew me on a personal level, you would be surprised by me saying this because I don’t tend to stand and fight. I look for somewhere to hide or I seek help because I don’t think I can do it myself. That’s how you lose things that mean the world to you, when you decide to hide instead of withstanding everything from that challenge. I look back on this year so far, and I think of how much I lost just to win. Some of those things I lost meant everything to me. And when they were gone, I felt like I was never going to find a way out of that misery.

I went this whole school year with diagnosed depression and it was because I kept resorting to hiding from my problems. Every time I thought I was out of the woods, there came the problem until I decided to embrace it. It’s important that you always gage how you live your life, so that after you go through something, you can be sure that what happened to you wasn’t because you mistreated someone else.

Not everybody is going to like you. I think I’ll say that again: NOT EVERYBODY IS GOING TO LIKE YOU. Make sure you know who you are and what you stand for so that in your times of trials, you can believe in yourself. I’m not saying that you should abandon your friends because at the end of the day we wouldn’t be where we are without them; I’m saying make sure you’re stable so that you can be okay. When I finally got my head right, everything seemed to fall in place. Remember to know who you are and when you’re going through it, it’s not always bad, sometimes it’s a test of character.

Another reason why Jovan is my hero. We need to highlight more honest people like Jovan to inspire more who are willing to listen.
